In 1913, Lowell announced a new search for "Planet X" -- the astral body which, when finally found years later, was named Pluto (and which astronomers no longer regard as a planet). Lowell (1855-1916) left a million dollars in his will to finance continued work in the search for "X". Long after his death, studies of photographic plates that had been made by Lowell using his telescope in Arizona disclosed two images of Pluto!
