Do you have any information on which intersection this looks north from? Nothing on it is identifiable to me. (I live downtown Toronto.)

If you look at the original print at the McCord Museum you can zoom in a bit more. One of the signs is for Dineens Furs. If you do a Google search for that store you can find an ad in the Jan 10th 1913 Toronto Sunday World newspaper saying it is located at 140 Yonge St Cor Temperence.

I can't even imagine taking the streetcar like this. Epic picture.

The United Empire Bank of Canada (I just found out while trying -- unsuccessfully so far -- to track down the intersection) only existed from 1906 to 1911, so the "about 1890" can't be right here.

Oh of course - that makes sense! Now I just need to find out where on Yonge Street it was. With any luck it'll just appear before me later this week when I'm downtown :)

Lú_: Do you think that might be the King Edward Hotel in the middle-distance? That might make this Wellington Street, which would make some sense with the presence of banks?

It looks like Yonge St at Front St, looking North. What is now the hockey hall of fame is on the left (West).
