Thanks Mr Hall for the date - Saturday 28 January 1899. It was the Intercolonial Sailing Carnival, and VERA was sailing for Queensland according to the SMH - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14197584 It seems that VERA "did not start" - trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/14197630 . She looks fine in this photo ...

Looks like Ivan Rafael Rodic, who had the church name (I'm not sure of the ecclesiastical term for the name change) of Archbishop Giovanni Raffaele Rodic, O.F.M. † See his history here, which includes Archbishop of Belgrade: www.catholic-hierarchy.org/bishop/brodic.html and here; www.geocities.com/capitolhill/rotunda/2209/Catholic_Yugos... He was appointed Archbishop on 29 october, 1924, so this photo would be dated after that.
