Message reads thus; Aircraft Information Information on Grumman A-6E Intruder 155717 After this aircraft was involved in an incident that closed Taipei International Airport for six hours, I flew it from Taipei to MCAS Iwakuni with the flaps locked up and the gear locked down. The details are described in a September 1976 Approach magazine article. "The Accident that Should Have Happened." Subsequent to minimal repairs at Iwakuni, I then flew it aboard USS Midway for a no-flap arrestment. Despite four landings in the wires, the hook skipped and failed to catch a cross-deck pendant. The fifth (successful) landing was assisted by rolls of toilet paper wrapped in ordnance tape being used to raise the pendants about ten inches off the deck. Rarely has the deceleration of arrestment been more satisfying than on that landing! Because of recent precautionary restrictions on information only the minimum details of aircraft at AMARG are allowed to be published. All aircraft in all "AMARC III" lists are in arrival date order only. As A-6E 155717 arrival date was August 2, 1994 and is no longer on that list indicates it has been disposed of for salvage and scrapped.
