Laura Ursula Charlotte Cowie (1892-1969), Scottish actress, toured with the Forbes-Robinson repertory company in the US in 1915-16, as Ophelia in Hamlet, Maisie in The Light that Failed, Cleopatra in Shaw's Caesar and Cleopatra, and Vivan in The Passing of the Third Floor Back. news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1499&dat=19140908&... She also played "Anne Bullen" in Shakespeare'sKing Henry VIII, in 1910-11: www.stagebeauty.net/produce/kingh/th-kingh.html www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/person/mp67365/laura-cowie

"Sir Johnston Forbes-Robertson (16 January 1853 – 6 November 1937) was an English actor and theatre manager. He was considered the finest Hamlet of the nineteenth century and one of the finest actors of his time, despite his dislike of the job and his lifelong belief that he was temperamentally unsuited to acting." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnston_Forbes-Robertson

NYT of April 11, 1916 query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F10717FC3D5F13738... reported on the two of them as Hamlet and Ophelia at the Majestic in Brooklyn. It notes that she was new to New York and that he was getting to the ned of his farewll tour. The sun. (New York [N.Y.]), 06 June 1915. chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83030272/1915-06-06/ed-... reported that he had sailed for Europe on the Philadelphia and said he might never return. But he clearly did make one further trip. From The Washington times. (Washington [D.C.]) 1902-1939, September 19, 1915, SUNDAY EVENING EDITION, Image 12 chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn84026749/1915-09-19/ed-... "Sir Johnston Forbes-Robertson and his English company, including Mlsa Laura Cowle, the young Scotch actress who scored such a decided success with Forbes-Robertson In the West last season, will sail for New York on September 25 for the final lap 'of Sir Johnston's farewell American tour, which opens at Richmond on October 11." So my guess is that this picture is taken when they arrived.

The Washington Herald., October 08, 1915, page 1, top of column 2 chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83045433/1915-10-08/ed-... indicates that Forbes-Robertson arrived in New York on the American liner New York. Lord Aberdeen (in neighboring picture) arrived on the same voyage. So I think this is on the liner New York. Found!! See NYT of Oct 8, 1915 for a list of "Passengers from Liverpool." select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=FB0A17FC395D1673...
