Anyone know exactly where Alderson Street was? Possibly Surry Hills?

One can see the night soil lane, and how it would have been operated. Also there doesn't appear to be any greenery, except for that half dead tree in the middle of the pix.

beachcomber australia Found it, about 1/2 hour of searching. It was located at Redfern, on the eastern side of Redfern Park. It was located within the block surrounded by Elizabeth St, Kettle St, Walker St and Phillip St. Alderson Street ran north south, parallel to Elizabeth St. In that block was also Bilston St, which ran parallel and to the east of Alderson. The lane could very well be Bilston Street. Housing Commission flats occupy the site. It can be found in Gregorys reprint of their 1st edition Sydney Street Directory of 1934, which was reprinted in 2006, to celebrate their 70th edition.

dunedoo Thanks! I wonder if the image had something to do with the earlier ones of that block? See -

What can I say? "I remember it well?" It was a very sexist facility - the men had their needs met and the women could hold on to it????? Note the far side of the Liffey - the Wood Quay site is derelict. There is no sign of the bunker that desecrates one of the most historic sites in Dublin or of its later facelift. Is there any chance you could turn it slightly so I can read the election poster?

Ah yes, Sam Nolan, I was living in that constituency in 1969 and that was my first time voting in Dublin. I didn't vote for Sam1
