Children ready for school during the 1918 flu epidemic - Starke

The boys were first cousins. Don Hoover’s father, Frank Hoover, was a professional photographer. Don’s three year old brother died from the flu and pneumonia in February 1919. Joe Sistrunk sold the weekly paper “Grit,” and he and Don in this photo are going out to sell papers. [notes from Martha Birchfield, great-niece of Joe Sistrunk; original photo from Futch family archives provided to Mrs. A. Morris who began the Fla. Photo Archives at FSU.]
