The history of the market: The Market was not initially popular with ordinary Dubliners, possibly because of the appointment of English architects and builders. In any event, tragedy was to befall South City Market on August 27th 1892 when the massive city fire of that date devastated the whole building. Miraculously no one was killed but the shopkeepers lost their premises and overhead homes, and the stallholders suffered even greater financial loss through their stock not having been insured. Some of the letters from the Stallholders to Management detailing the extent of their stock loss remain to this day. There was a flood of public sympathy for them and a fund for their relief was successfully organised. The Centre was re-built in the same style, using local labour and craftsmen, and was re-opened on September 13th 1894 and on this occasion all local dignitaries of any standing whatsoever were invited.

From here: After a serious fire in 1892, the glass market place was destroyed and replaced by a cruciform plan containing intersecting arcades. The adaption was handled by W.H. Byrne and he was also responsible for removing the central tower & spire and the corner spires from the Georges Street facade. The central tower is already gone in this photo, so it's post 1894.

The building which we see looking down Exchequer Street, which now blocks the view of the castle in Sharon's streetview is Castle House. Revenue had offices here from the mid 1970s. It's main tenant is now Dublin Business School. I always understood that this brutalist lump opened in around 1975. But here we seemingly see it under construction a few years earlier. (Or maybe we're seeing hoardings around the demolition site of what went prior? Or the so called Stamping Building further behind?). EDIT: On the cars, beachcomber australia my gut reaction was that #4 is a Mk II Ford Cortina.
