Captain Arthur Henry Evans MD FRCS is shown as 'seconded' wef 2nd August 1917 [LG of 1st November 1918] but with no other detail. He evidently had a close association with 4th London General Hospital as on 1st December 1908 (aged 36) he was Gazetted Captain RAMC and assigned to that Hospital as an officer whose "services will be available on mobilisation". After the war he was 'restored to the Establishment wef 30th October 1920, to serve at 4th London General Hospital, but was effectively 'Retired' from the Army wef 30th September 1921, having attained the age limit for Regular Service. [LG 26th January 1923]. In the 1930s Arthur Evans OBE MS MD FRCS became a medical expert on alcoholism and inebriety, and later (1938) President of The Medical Society. It appears that Arthur Henry Evans was born in 1872 (possibly at Bromyard, Avenbury, in Herefordshire). He died in Surrey aged 78.//

In 1911 he was a Consulting Surgeon, aged 39 and born in Neath, Glamorganshire, Wales. He was living with his wife of two years Dorothy and son Arthur Briant aged 1 at 28 Devonshire Place W, St Marylebone, London, a 6-storey residence containing 18 main rooms and shown in this estate agent's brochure www.savills.co.uk/residential-investment-sales-details/28... The family employed a Nurse, a Cook, a Parlour Maid, a House Maid and a Kitchen Maid. An onlne family tree shows that his wife's name was Dorothy Briant (1887-1983) and he was the son of Samuel Evans (1839-1915) and Sarah Ann Davies (1840). In 1881 they lived at 27 London Road in Neath maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf... where Samuel Evans was an Ironmonger. By 1891 Arthur was a Medical Student. HIs father was a Master Ironmonger. The family home was at 2 Park Road, Neath. Samuel was a successful businessman. When he died in 1915 his estate was valued at £4393 and he lived at Wyndcliffe, Gnoll Road, Neath. Glamorgan Archives at RootsWeb has EVANS -April 13th at Wyndcliffe, Gnoll-road Neath, Samuel EVANS, Ironmonger. Funeral Llantwit Cemetery, Sat 12,Noon. In 1901 Arthur was based in Liverpool and described as East (?) Dispensary Doctor, living alone at 158 Richmond Row.

This is Colonel Alexander Napier MD VD of Rosebank, Queen Mary Avenue, Croshill, Glasgow. Alexander Napier was a pre-War Medical Officer RAMC, having attained the rank of Brigade-Surgeon-Lieutenant Colonel on appointment as Supernumary Surgeon and Senior Medical Officer to the Scottish Rifle Volunteer Infantry Brigade on 28th May 1904 [LG 3 Jun 1904]. He resigned his Commission as a Surgeon Colonel on 19th May 1906 [LG 18 May 1906].

He apparently re-joined the Army during the First World War and in 1917 he was CO of 4th Scottish General Hospital RAMC at Stobhill in Glasgow, the Headquarters of which was shared with 3rd Gen Hosp RAMC at HQ York Parade, Yorkhill, Glasgow. He was promoted from Lt Col and Hon Surgeon Colonel to Brevet Colonel effective 3rd June 1917 [published in LG 7 Aug 1917].

Colonel A Napier MD VD, ('VD' - the Volunteer Officer Decoration), retired from the Army on 18th November 1919 having reach the age limit for Service.

In 1883-85 Alex Napier was co-Editor of the Glasgow Medical Journal - with Joseph Coats MD, - offering advice and opinion on topics as diverse as 'the dibection of micrococci in pneumonic sputum'; obstetrics; and antipyretics.//
