translation: Serial "Merdeka" [Freedom]. After Dutch troops had to intervene due to the actions of the military and civil republican authorities at Palembang, immediate action was taken to help the hard hit population. The Red Cross was present at the spot and established policlinics to handle the medical emergency of the Indonesian and Chinese population

I reckon this is the original 1940's propagandistic text of the photo --if so, it really shows colonialism at its end. I personally find the combination of photo and text sickening, but also very educational --a strong image out of Dutch history.

Your pictures have explained that what all people have gone through in the days of WAR. All pictures are heart touching and gives us an IDEA that how people have struggled to live in those days. Now those days of struggle is gone. People in those days were still helpful to each other and they were loyal. Now when good days have come where there is no bondage then we have becomes each others enemy and making this world more crucial to live then in the days of world war. I hope that we get a lesson from this and work to make this world a better place.
