I wanted to know the designer of this one, and didn't find what I expected!
    From www.pbs.org/newshour/inauguration/fashion.html:
She designed her gown herself and took it to Bergdorf Goodman to be made.

There's a photo on that site of what the dress looks like under the cape.

This image has been used in the indicommons.org "across the Commons" post Inaugurations.

(EDIT) ... and in the indicommons.org subcuration post Inaugurations Past and Present - a last piece of celebration.

I thought this was made by Oleg Cassini...and they discussed it together.
  • Master David XI said:
I was surprised to be reminded that Bergdorf made the piece. Perhaps, I did not know. I know that Mrs. Kennedy did not like Cassini's design for the coat she wore in the procession to the White House. It was too thin and contained less than needed padding. Cassini was by no doubt a good designer, but did not consider the personal and physical needs, as temperature, of the individual wearing his clothes.

I cant agree. I find this image chilling. I remember that time, when the President could be out among people. No more. And the tragedy of JFK is all the more present in this image.
