Pompei is not Paris :) at the time of the photochrome the city of "Pompei" did not exist except for a church under construction near a farming village and the ruins of the ancient city of "Pompeii", for which the name of the place (the ancient and modern one) was in latin, especially for foreigners who came in to visit.
