Robert Clyde Beech Born in the second quarter of 1896 Kensington, London, the oldest child of Robert John Beech [b.1862 Ireland d.1915 Louth, Lincs.] a Captain in the 4th African Hussars, and Alexandra Marion Beech previously Bullough nee MacKenzie [b.1856 Stornoway, Scotland d.1928 London]. Robert’s father, Robert Snr. was her second husband. The 1901 census [of Scotland] records him living at Meggernie Castle, Perth, Scotland, with his parents and siblings George Joceline [b.1900 Kensington, London]. The household also has a domestic staff of 14. Not found in the 1911 census. London Gazette entries read; 8th November 1916 – The under mentioned to be Acting Capts. While commanding a Compan ... 2nd Lieut R C Beech. Effective 28th August 1916. 27th February 1917 – 2nd Lieut.R C Beech relinquishes the acting rank of Captain. Effective 19th October 1916. Reported Missing / Killed in Action on 18th October 1916. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial and also on the Glen Lyon War Memorial. His is the second name on the memorial. The first name is that of his father John Robert, wh had died while in command of his troops in Lincolnshire. His inscription reads; “Lieutenant Colonel, 2nd/1st Scottish Horse. Died 6 November 1915. Aged 55. Son of the late James Dixon Beech and Susan Beech; husband of Alexandra Marion Beech, of Fasgath, Glenlyon. Served in the Egyptian and South African wars. Awarded Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (CMG), and Distinguished Service Order (DSO). Buried in INNERWICK-IN-GLENLYON PARISH CHURCHYARD." His medal Records Card indicates that his mother made an application for his medals to be issued on 30th November 1922.

He is wearing the regimental badge of the Scottish Horse which was raised at Dunkeld near Glenlyon.

The Bridge, Aberfeldy – Then, Then and Now (100+ years later)

Known by several names, the Tay Bridge, General Wade's Bridge or the Aberfeldy Bridge, it has remained in place for more than 275 years. (1733)

Tree growth precludes exact comparison photographs, however one photograph from 2007, and another from 1958, give a sense of this bridge and region over time.

what is the story behind the sculpture.. I come from Aberfeldy and I believe that a mistake was made and the person killed himself.Is this true? francesfairley660@hotmail.com
