    I like the accidental collage-style composition here, including the tuft of cotton (?) and the folded edge and the thumbtack and a creased handwritten scrap... and the flasks in the background seem to indicate this was taken sideways?

    Her parents, Duncan MacInnes and Frances Sayers, were born in Scotland and England respectively; she was born in Salt Lake City. books.google.com/books?id=rzROAAAAMAAJ&dq=%22Frances%... Her brother, Duncan Arthur MacInnes (1885-1965), was also born in Salt Lake City, also attended the University of Illinois, for grad school; he earned a PhD there in 1911, and became a professor of Physical Chemistry at MIT.
