In 1961 the Robert Mosses power project opened and....."Put very simply, we divert water from the Niagara River—up to 375,000 gallons a second" During summer months this translates to about half of the original flow of water being diverted before it even reaches the falls, In winter months (off peak tourism) as little as one quarter of the original flow makes it's way over the falls. Generations have never seen the majestic falls at it's full splendor. Quote source - www.nypa.gov/facilities/niagara.htm

Do you have any information on which intersection this looks north from? Nothing on it is identifiable to me. (I live downtown Toronto.)

If you look at the original print at the McCord Museum you can zoom in a bit more. One of the signs is for Dineens Furs. If you do a Google search for that store you can find an ad in the Jan 10th 1913 Toronto Sunday World newspaper saying it is located at 140 Yonge St Cor Temperence.
