Private Henry Leicester Oldham

3543 Rifleman Henry Leicester Oldham, b. 1885, from Wandsworth, London. He was one of 174 officers and other ranks of the 1/16 Battalion London Regiment (Queen's Westminster Rifles) killed in front of Gommecourt on 1st July 1916. This 'diversionary' attack by 46th North Midland Division and 56th London Division was badly planned and ill conceived - the staff work and planning were disgraceful - throwing away the lives of brave men.
