Given the limitations on photography at that time it's not hard to believe that many images were staged. But if this was staged then those men should've earned actors' wages. You can feel the tension and fear. Since the War To End All Wars did nothing of the sort, by the time of the second such event there were many valorous war photographers who documented the reality of man's inhumanity to man. And some gave all as do others to this day. more on WWI that I just came across www.gwpda.org/photos/coppermine/
