    They aren't using a gun carriage, it's a Log Limber - a dedicated piece of equipment familiar to the logging industry. Logs are carried underslung from the limber to facilitate lifting the felled trunk and keep the centre of gravity low so it doesn't roll over. The principal difference is the diameter of the wheels, much larger than a gun carriage so that large logs can be carried under a high axle. Compare the height of the wheels here with the soldiers.
