At least two of the aircraft in the photo above are still in operation with Buffalo Airways.

The Dakota (C-47/DC-3) closest to the camera, RCAF KG-713 (12946), is currently owned and operated by Buffalo Airways as C-GJKM (c/n 13580).

That's really something! These things were clearly made to last.

Despite a rough off-airport landing in 2019 with damage initially seen as beyond-repair, as of June 2023 C-GJKM is undergoing restoration, as documented at www.oldjets.net/red-deer---buffalo-airways.html

Built to last, get banged up, fixed, and last some more.

These aircraft are well over 70 years old and according to this recent article in Flying Magazine (March 2016), anywhere between 100-200 are still flying and in operation today.

Further, C-GWZS (ex- RAF/RCAF KG-330) is a D-Day "veteran":
"[KG-330] flew on D-Day dropping paratroopers over Normandy as part of 512 Squadron. KG330 left RAF Broadwell for Operation Tonga at precisely 23:15. It would have been part of 'C' flight as it crossed the English Channel towards its drop zone. The exact location for the drop was 3 mi (4.8 km) inland between Cabourg and Ouistreham just north of the heavily defended city of Caen. It would be dropping the 9th Parachute Battalion as part of the 6th Airborne Division. The paratroopers it was dropping were sent to destroy a heavy coastal battery and to position themselves on the canal between Caen and the port at Ouistreham. The coastal defence had earlier been successfully bombed by 100 Avro Lancaster bombers of RAF Bomber Command. The visibility is said to have been good, no casualties were reported and the aircraft returned to base at 03:35

Fortunately, no harm came to anyone, but there is bad news with regard to Buffalo Airways' DC-3, G-GJKM (c/n 13580). Initial reports are the aircraft is damaged beyond economical repair, after an engine failure soon after take-off forced an emergency landing on terrain roughly five miles from Hay River Airport (YHY / CYHY) on May 3, 2019. Again, fortunately no serious harm came to the two crew aboard.
