Here's one of my dad's old photos of Paradise Inn and my analysis that sheds some light on why the building in this shot doesn't look anything like Paradise Inn in most later photos: It appears that the building shown here and most of what's shown in my dad's old photo was actually the old northeast old wing of the Inn that was only there for a few years. The Inn itself was behind this wing. Though this looks like more than a "kitchen wing" there is documentation that the kitchen wing was demolished and replaced in 1935. Most likely this was taken in 1926, as the dog sled was probably part of the filming of "Heart of the Yukon". See this photo and description from the Tacoma Public Library collection.

This image lists as having been taken "in Nisqually Vista, Washington" which is on the opposite side of Mt. Rainier from where the picture was actually shot. As a former ranger in the Carbon River district, I know the view presented in the image very well. The ridgeline on the left is Curtis Ridge. The larger wall is Willis Wall (named for geologist Bailey Willis) and is divided from Liberty Wall to its right by Liberty Ridge. The ridgeline on the right is Ptarmigan Ridge. The skier is not actually on the Carbon Glacier but rather overlooking it.

DeForestRanger - Thanks for such detailed information. I have updated our image title. In our Libraries' database at the University of WA, we actually note the following information which was not part of the info we posted to Flickr: "Along the Carbon Glacier in spring. The Willis Wall in Mt. Rainier looms huge and precipitous." Would this be correct?

I am not sure it would be a springtime shot, based on the condition of the glacier. In spring, the Carbon appears fairly smooth-surfaced. It's not until autumn that it becomes craggy and darkens. My guess would have been that the image was taken in October after the first few snowfalls had occurred. I could be wrong about that, though. The view presented here shows not only Willis Wall but Liberty Wall to its right and below the cloud. That's a distinction important to climbers. The ridgeline which separates the two cirques is Liberty Ridge. Do you have any idea what year the picture was taken?

this has got to be the funniest and most surreal photo I've seen in the Commons so far. A staged tobogganing accident on top of a mountain involving three girls sprawled on the snow in bathing suits. : )
