Yes, there is a story here, if someone has time to investigate it. From the Supplement 5668 to the London Gazette of 10th May 1918.

"Temp. Capt. S. J. Alexander, M.C., is dismissed the service by order of General Court-Martial. 14th Mar. 1918."//

There is another Captain dismissed the Service by a General Court Martial on that same date, 14th March 1918. London Gazette Supplement of 24th May 1918 shows him to be Temp. Capt. William Core M.B. There is nothing to connect the two, but it is unlikely that there were two General Court-Martials convened on the same day, so there may be a link. The difference in dates of publication could be because of 'promulgation of sentence' delays. William Core, whose substantive Captaincy is published in the London Gazette of 10th July 1917 - effective from 18th April 1917, was an RAMC officer.

T./Lt. Arthur Hewitt Allen, N. Staff R., attd. M.G. Corps.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion in leading his company in an attack. He directed an attack on an enemy machine gun , which was holding up our advance, captured the gun and killed or captured the crew. Afterwards believing himself to be the only officer surviving in the attacking companies, he directed their fire on enemy machine guns and snipers, moving from shell hole to shell hole with utter disregard of his own personal danger to satisfy himself that the line was being properly maintained. Later, he was knocked down and severely bruised by a shell, but refused to leave his company and directed the carrying of rations to the front line.

My Headmistress, Miss Swanton's husband. He made a good Santa every year at the Swan School, Salisbury. (At least, I thought it was him - others say it was Major Higdon - the disguise worked!) I was there September 1964 until July 1968. He was born on the 26th March 1886. (It was both of them! They took it in turns.)
