Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6/TROP (EB102 c/n 16 416) US Army Air Forces Originally in service with 4./JG 77, this aircraft was left behind by German forces during the retreat from Soliman, Tunisia, on May 8, 1943. Captured by US forces, the aircraft disassembled, crated and shipped to the USA, where it was assembled by North American Aircraft personnel and briefly flown. Subsequently it was ferried to Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio, by Major Frederick A. Borsodi, who also tested the aircraft extensively at Wright Field. Flown by Coleman Kuhn the aircraft crashed on landing at Wright Field on September 1, 1944. Ref: 1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/HornDavid/9338.htm
