WOW! Super Constelllation!!!

Wayhay - aircraft! (Thanks Carol). As noted, this is a Lockheed Super Constellation. Given the number (16C) on the forward undercarriage, this was very likely N9716C, a Lockheed Super Constelllation L-1049E with c/n 4545. Starting out as a Qantas aircraft in the 1950s, it was leased (and later bought) by Capitol International Airlines (CL) in the early 1960s. It was retired in the late-1960s/early-1970s. As with other Capitol Lockheed's this was probably on it's way through SNN on a run from the US to Germany.

I remember this lineup very well. I was an AT2 (Aviation Electronics Technician) in the AEWBARRONPAC as a 20 year old in 1960 and was stationed at both Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Hawaii and at Midway Island.

Rich Young died in Volcan, Panama Aug 2016. I was stationed with him at AEW.

The Connie never went to the boneyard for storage at Davis Monthan AFB...she went to Florence SC to be treated like a '66 Olds junker by the hammer heads that abandoned it there. Dave Hill, Connie Crew 1982

I cried when I first saw the pictures of GD12 laying on the ground as junk. I was the last "qualifiied" aircrew on her until we retired her in 1982.
