Lockheed Super Constelllation

WOW! Super Constelllation!!!

Wayhay - aircraft! (Thanks Carol). As noted, this is a Lockheed Super Constellation. Given the number (16C) on the forward undercarriage, this was very likely N9716C, a Lockheed Super Constelllation L-1049E with c/n 4545. Starting out as a Qantas aircraft in the 1950s, it was leased (and later bought) by Capitol International Airlines (CL) in the early 1960s. It was retired in the late-1960s/early-1970s. As with other Capitol Lockheed's this was probably on it's way through SNN on a run from the US to Germany.

I Turned up that bird while on Midway

Flew as a flight tech (in-flight electronic repair) on that and many other planes assigned to AEWBARRONPAC during 1963-1964 time frame. Midway deployment with high anticipation of return to BP. Great picture and great memories!

Served as a radar repair technician (AT2) and worked on the equipment in this plane and others from 1959 to 1961 while a part of the AEWBARRONPAC at both Barbers Point Naval Station, Hawaii and Midway Island. Lots of memories seeing these pictures.

Sharon Corbet The NLI has a proud history of treating all counties on the western seabord (in fact, more or less anywhere outside the Pale) pretty much interchangeably.

derangedlemur Sharon Corbet As a Limerick native who has heard my fellow citizens claim Shannon on more than one occasion only to be shot down in flames by irate Clare men and women I was waiting for that! Shannon is of course in Co. Clare. The plane is a Super Constellation and I always considered it the most beautiful and elegant of the airliners!
