The 1901 census records him living with his parents Alfred Baxter Odam [b.1869 d.1914] and Elizabeth Caroline nee Olive [b.1866 d.1935] and along with his brothers Alfred J [b.1892], George S [b.1899], Frank L [b.1900] and sister Lily M O [b.1897]. His father is employed as a Domestic Coachman.
  The 1911 census record the family living at 18 Northampton Street, Islington with another son [born since the 1901 census] Edward [b1908].
  His father is now employed as a Metal Burnisher. His older brother, Alfred is a Confidential Clerk & Shorthand Typist. His younger brother, George is a School Doctors Errand Boy. His sister, Lily, is a Dress Finisher. John himself is employed as a Gas & Hot Water Fitters Mate.
