The London Scottish ( a TA regiment formed in 1859 who also served in South Africa in 1900-02) first saw action in the 1914-18 war on 31st October (Halloween) 1914 at the Mill at Messines. They were the only regiment to hold the line despite heavy casualties. The Regiment commemorates this action on Halloween every year. The London Scottish now form A Company of The London Regiment who have provided over 400 TA soldiers for active service along side the regular army in recent years.
