The aircraft in this cutaway image is the XF2R, but actually represents the proposed but unbuilt XF2R-2 variant with the auxiliary General Electric J31 turbojet of the XF2R-1 replaced by one Westinghouse J34 turbojet. In addition to having the J34 in the tail empennage, the XF2R-2 shown in this cutaway image also differed from the XF2R-1 in having a squared-off vertical stabilizer, the wings with squared-off wingtips, and the air intakes for the turbojet on the sides of the forward fuselage rather than in the wing roots.
