After a long ride, sweet dreams on the floor.

What looks like a bottle, stores up liquid and has an edible inner bark? The Queensland bottle tree. Shaped like a sturdy wine bottle, these trees are often left standing when undergrowth is cleared away for farming. While not a perfect source, Bottle trees have long been considered an emergency source of sustenance. Bottle trees are often left in fields where cattle are being grown. The leaves can serve as an emergency fodder. In times of extreme drought, farmers have even felled whole trees for cattle. When the outer bark is peeled back, it exposes a soft, edible inner bark. Unfortunately, the pulp is a good source of energy but doesn’t provide much in the way of protein. Some cattle fed on it have developed Nitrate poisoning. The native people who lived in Australia before the Europeans sometimes ate the roots of the young plants or scored the sides of the trees and ate the secretions from them. From www.genevany.org/50/ '1912 Cyclone hit SW edge of Geneva on September 1; razed huge barns on White Springs Farm. ' And from www.belhurstcastle.com/whitehistory.html 'Sunday, September 1, 1912, was a day of disaster for White Springs Farm and the immediate vicinity. A cyclone wrought havoc, leveling the main group of dairy barns and uprooting most of the beautiful elms on the farm. A three-quarter ton dinner bell from one of the barns was found a half-mile away. Miraculously, there was no loss of human life, though four or five calves were killed. Clean-up operations were extensive, and tree experts were brought in to salvage what trees could be saved. Mr. Lewis sold the Guernseys, rather than replace the barns. By 1920 the cattle business was over.' Since then, the farm has apparently been a poultry farm, an orchard, a home for the elderly, and is now a hotel and winery.

Wow ... so nearby. Chances are this spot is now a shopping plaza, or part of Xerox.

Geneva had devastating tornadoes in 1955 and 1983, but the glass plate makes me think this was earlier than either.

It was about 1910. You will see by the clothes that it was not 1955 or 1983 when you look at the photo next to it.
