    This is the type of aircraft that Chuck Yeager was REALLY flying in that sequence from "The Right Stuff" where he gets burned in his bailout at the end of the picture. The NF-104A was modified to reach altitudes where reaction control jets were effective. It was used to train pilots for the X-15, which features such controls. There is one on display at EAFB, as a pylon aircraft.
