Large negatives (16" by 20"), portable darkroom, sand, heat, etc.... you have to admire these photographers' dedication to recording the world. It's a long way from taking the 1 hour air conditioned bus tour with your digital point-and-shoot and "get in, get pictures, get out and we will look at the results at the hotel". There is no sense of truly appreciating the sights of the world as did these pioneers.

I have an original oil painting by Frank Dillon.....(a contemporary of Frith's)....with this temple as the subject. I believe this is Trajan's Kiosk....commonly known as "Pharoah's Bed". Here a link to another of Frith's photos of this temple.
