Feds 2 miles out of Guyaymas [i.e., Guaymas] (LOC)

  • David Badagnani said:
The spelling is incorrect. Guaymas is a city and municipality located in the southwest part of the state of Sonora in northwestern Mexico. The city is located 117 km south of the state capital of Hermosillo, and 242 miles from the U.S. border, and is the principal port for the state. During the Mexican Revolution, the first aerial bombardment of a naval target in the world occurred just off the coast of Guaymas. In 1913, five military ships belonging to Federal forces appeared in the bay. General Alvaro Obregon of the rebel army ordered the bombing of these ships using the aircraft named “Sonora.”
