Today's engineering exercise: how would you design the safety interlock between the Monocab and the station platform doors?

The elevator is a single point of failure. Imagine you're in a wheelchair. You get out of the last Monocab at 1 am to discover the elevator is, "not responding to the call button." Is there a way to reach help in these days before wireless phones? Can you summon an elevator mechanic at 1 am? (If you can, they'll be grumpy. 😄)

Out of curiosity, what sort of damage would have caused the loss of the corners on the glass negative?

Actually, the corners are covered with black paper, not broken. At the time when they were making prints from the glass, the photographer glued black paper around the sides of the negative in order to crop the image. For the most part, we were successful in removing the paper, but in some cases, the glue was too strong, and we left the paper on in order to avoid damaging the emulsion.

It appears to be an Illinois Central coal-burning 0-6-0 switcher perhaps on a transfer run. Locomotive has an acetylene headlight as well as an acetylene backup headlight on the tender. The second through fourth cars behind the locomotive tender are outside-braced. KK
