FAO Archivist SDASM....On the full-size scan does the marking under the RH wing read F-L? This aircraft has the Cross of Lorraine on the tail so attached to the Free French but I believe not captured from the Vichy French until after Operation Torch (end 1942). The Free French had used the markings 'FL- 'from 1942 but swiftly changed that to' FC-' but ' F-L' is new to me although the use of 3 letter suffixes like QBE was common. Are the dates Jack Canary was in N. Africa known?

A30yoyo It does appear to be F-L but if you email me at arenga@sdasm.org I can send you a large file, maybe you can tell better. Unfortunately, we do not know when he was in North Africa...

There is another photo (archived very large) of 'QBE' at Hamburg (so plainly post-WWII )at freepages.military.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tmi45/bernard%2... On this the RH underwing marks seem to be removed 'QBE' got around...it was recorded at Croydon (London) in the immediate post-war period, too
