This is Curt Johnston, who was Test Conductor for the launch of Atlas 10B (Project S.C.O.R.E.) and other Atlas launches. This steely-eyed missile man was in charge during the final phases of countdown. Johnston was nick-named the "Ohio cowboy" because, during Atlas launchings, he wore a "lucky" cowboy outfit which included a bright red string tie, a fancy shirt, cowboy breeches and boots.
