On the right a dutch interlocal bus as a touringcar from the company VAD that used to operate in centre parts of the Netherlands.

Great picture, but... this is not Denmark at all... It's a Swedish touring coach & 1-axle trailer at the front of a Dutch railway station. The Stockholm Transport Museum incorrectly identified this station as located in Nyborg, Denmark. Just look at the Dutch sign "Ingang" (= entrance) instead of the Danish "Adgang" or "Indgang". Please notice the overhead wire and pole which were non-existent at any Danish railway in the 1940s and many years to come. This is definitely not Denmark and certainly not the (former) railway & ferry station in Nyborg Fyn. In fact it is the west wing of the former railway station in Arnhem, The Netherlands, that had been severely damaged during the battle of Arnhem in september 1944. Originally this part of the building had an attic with a gable roof. As you can see the overall roof of the train shed has not been repaired. Shortly after this picture was taken, the remains of the station were replaced by a new building that also has been replaced since. The fierce Swedish left-hand traffic touring coach (a Scania-Vabis, I presume) with 1-axle trailer is on tour from Hälsingborg. The Dutch bus behind it is a Crossley SD 42/1 with Werkspoor bodywork, owned by the Veluwsche Auto Dienst (VAD) and operating on a regional service (or maybe as a train replacement) to Zwolle, if I read the destination blind correctly. I tried to identify this regional bus. If I read the provincial registration correctly as M-78567, it should be Crossley no. 1373 with Werkspoor bodywork, delivered to VAD on December 15th, 1950. But this would not support 1949 as the year wherein the picture was made. A more likely and identical candidate would than be M-78537, Crossley bus no. 1299, delivered to VAD on June 5th, 1948. Maybe someone with better eyes (or reading glasses) than mine should be able to decipher the registration plate? In spite of the obviously incorrect localization: Did I already tell you how much I like this wonderful picture?
