Photograph by Arthur Green taken during his 1868 visit to Bermuda showing the then town of Hamilton from Fort Hamilton, contained in the ’50 Views of Bermuda’ album (Eastman Museum and Royal Collection Trust). The four story Mill House (now part of the Bermuda Motors Church Street property) appears in the centre of the photograph with its large chimney apparently removed between 1895 and 1900, while directly behind is the Alexandrina (or ‘Oddfellows’) Hall constructed in the early 1860’s. To the right is the Sessions House before the 1892-1893 Jubilee Clock Tower and verandah were added, the then unfinished Trinity Church constructed 1844-1883 and St Andrews Church, constructed 1846 appear on the right. the 1861 Memorial to Governor Reid (1839-1846) is seen on the left adjacent to the Public Building, constructed 1838-1840.

    Yikes. That's a chilling description.

As toddlers we were taken by our nannys for afternoon strolls and often ended up at that location to play, far away from the crickets balls being played some 100 meters behind the tree.
