Hi Stig. I actually use several sources to try and ascertain/corroborate the most accurate information. I like to use Joe Baugher's site, Aviation Safety Database, aviationarchaeology.com, and Forgotten Props/Jets. In addition, I'll scour the interweb via Google. You can pick up a lot of inconsequential details that help paint a better picture when pieced together.

C-47A-50-DL, s/n 42-24198, coded 5X-Z. Assigned 29th TCS, 313th TCG, 52nd TCW, 9th AF. Condemned /salvaged 1947.

USAAF Ser. no. 43-15384 (c/n 19850) was actually a Douglas C-47A (C-47A-80-DL). This aircraft would be lost on January 22, 1945, approximately 50-miles from Luliang, China.
