More information from the Queensland Picture of the Week feature: "Ellerslie House was built by Robert Philp after his marriage in 1878. The homestead was purchased by William John Heatley in the 1930s and renamed Heatley House. Heatley was mayor of Townsville in the 20s and 30s. Today the home is part of the Cathedral School, previously known as St Anne's School."

Sir Robert Philp was one of the most famous Queenslanders of his time. He was respected as the co-founder of Burns, Philp and Co., the merchants who made their fortunes across Queensland and the South Pacific. Philp was twice Premier of Queensland, and represented Townsville in Queensland parliament for nearly 30 years. Yet he is now a forgotten figure. In this short biographical portrait, I argue that Robert Philp should not be forgotten, as he was a key figure in the history of Townsville, Queensland and the Commonwealth of Australia.
