Wearing WWII camouflage, and titled British Overseas Airways with Red ,White and Blue stripes underlining the civil registration G-AFCX, Clyde flew to La Guardia Marine Terminal during the Battle of Britain . It also flew to the Congo in 1940 with the French officials who negotiated the alignment of French Equatorial Africa with De Gaulle's Free French

The Rolls-Royce Merlin powered C-4 Argonauts built for BOAC had the dimensions of the DC-4 but some of the features of the DC-6 (e.g pressurization). The similar C-4 North Stars built for Trans Canada Airlines were also pressurized. The North Stars used by the RCAF were unpressurized and some used Douglas Chicago built C-54 fuselages bought as war factory surplus
