Pretty obviously retouched--perhaps he was photographed in his previous team's uniform? The visor of his cap looks to be original, judging from the shadow it casts.

@splaestro this photo was not retouched. It was taken in a era when real life and the illustrated one collided. It is best evidenced by a certain period piece by the name of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" In this documentary the two worlds collide for what some call 'High Hilarity'

@deneyterrio: Wow, that's deep.

I believe the photo was taken when he played New Bedford (New England) team. Before being traded to Detroit.

Princess Adelgunde of Bavaria (Full German name: Adelgunde Marie Auguste Therese Prinzessin von Bayern) (born 17 October 1870 in Munich, Kingdom of Bavaria; died 4 January 1958 in Sigmaringen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany) was a Princess of Bavaria by birth and Princess of Hohenzollern through her marriage to William, Prince of Hohenzollern The marriage took place on 20 January 1915 in Munich. Her husband is here:

trialsanderrors: thanks for the information. We'll update the record with the additional information.

11 years later, after her marriage to Wilhelm/William at the age of 44:

"Mrs. D.J. Mahoney" is Helen Harding Cox Mahoney (1896-1921), daughter of former Ohio governor and 1920 Democratic Party presidential nominee, James M. Cox. She is shaking hands with aviator Howard Rinehart, one of the Dayton-Wright RB-1 co-designers. (As mentioned in the note above, he is the "R" in the "RB-1" model designation. The "B" is co-designer Milton C. Baumann.) Helen Cox was married to Daniel J. Mahoney (1889-1963), general manager for one of the newspapers owned by her father. Her father's business would eventually become today's Cox Communications. Sadly, she would pass away the following year at the age of 25, after suffering from a bout of pneumonia. Here is Helen Cox Mahoney earlier in the LoC Bain Flickr photostream:

"Dismantled and shipped to France, the RB-1 was flown by Howard Rinehart in the 28 September 1920 race, but was forced to withdraw after a cable failure prevented full retraction of the gear/flap mechanism,"
