Hi Tom, thank you for your interest and comments! These images are part of a collection of which the background documentation has been lost and/or destroyed over time. What we hope for here is that some of our intrepid researchers will unearth the details of the sitters, standers and location from the title, image and personalities therein! Keep an eye on the comments stream during the day and perhaps we will, as we have many times in the past, be enlightened, entertained and educated:-)

Other images in the series give the date as 1911, and the commissioning location as Ballybur (Castle?), County Killkenny.

Aaron Flegeltaub (the photographer), born c1844 in Suwalki Poland, was a prominent photographer who operated studios, at various times, in several cities including Ballarat, Stawell and Melbourne. He advertised a "School of Photography", was a dealer in photographic equipment and was one of the first to import and demonstrate X-ray machines. He was likely responsible for the founding of the South Australian Photographic Society in 1885. He died in 1921. [1] [2] [3]

Great example of 1880's style, how restrictive it was. I've noticed that women's heads were often too large for their body size...or was it their bodies that were shrunken due to corseting from a young age?

Unfortunately flickr notes don't work anymore, but there is a small bit of Harbour Bridge approach on the extreme right, which implies these photos are c.1930.
