Third North American RB-45C US Air Force photo

The USAF serial number on this RB-45C appears to be "50-013," however, the last RB-45 fiscal procurement year was 1948, which would suggest the likely USAF serial for this particular aircraft was actually 48-013. One wonders if "0013" was a fictitious serial, or if the Air Force had simply deleted the last digit of the procurement year and added a "0" to the sequence number.

The photo title says this is third RB-45C built. Serial number 48-013 was the third RB-45C built. The extra "0" is a conundrum. Maybe somebody goofed and painted the first digit as a "0" instead of an "8". Assigned 86th BS. 47th BG 1954. WFU 1958. Sent to Adana AB, Turkey as a fire fighting practice airframe.
