At that time, Chance was manager of the New York Americans (aka Yankees), Irwin was business manager of the club (The times dispatch., February 13, 1913, Page 6, co. 3). On February 15, 1913 (date on sticker 2/15/13), Chance and Irwin sailed for Bermuda on the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company's steamer Arcadian (New-York tribune., February 15, 1913, Page 12, col. 5).
