    Please forgive me, but are you absolutely sure this is hay? It does rather look like wheat. The bound sheaves were stacked together in stooks (seen to left and right) then pitched onto the cart and taken to the rick-yard to be built into thatched ricks awaiting threshing. Or perhaps at this date (late 19th C. or early 20th. C ?)the sheaves might have been on their way directly to a traction-engine driven threshing machine.

In the interests of accuracy and information for future use in an increasingly urbanised world - in which such pursuits are no longer even a memory - would it be very impertinent of me to suggest that you get a second opinion before it's too late?
