    The Governor of Tanganyika, H E Sir Edward Twining, presents the British Empire Medal (BEM) to WOPC (Warrant Officer Platoon Commander) Eleuteri, of the 6th Battalion, King's African Rifles, at Iringa, Southern Highlands Province, June 1954. The award was in recognition of WOPC Eleuteri's conduct during a battle at the Kenya Police Post of Othaya in May 1953 when the post was attacked by a Mau Mau gang estimated at between 200 and 400 strong. In the background are Lady Twining, on left of picture, then the Governor's Private Secretary Lt. Col. T Leahy. On the right are Captain Sam Twining RM, in white helmet, and on extreme right Chief Adam Sapi.
