The fifth built Convair 990 N8484H was never delivered to Swissair but instead went to Peru as OB-OAG-728 Stig

The date 8 Aug 1961 can't be correct! Convair was deep into trouble financially due to the flop made by both the 880 and 990 range of aircraft, and they didn't exactly push them out by the dozen every day. Since the aircraft seen is already painted in American colours, and the delivery date to American was 21 March 1963 something is clearly not right.... Stig

Stig Jarlevik Stig, we got a grant to digitize 100K of these. We are working through the process...we are finding out how accurate the dates printed on the negative envelopes are. As you pointed out some are not accurate.

Convair CV-990-30A-8, s/n 30-10-13. First sold to Varig March 1963 and registered PP-VJE (photo). To Alaska Airlines May 1967 and registered N987AS. Upgraded to CV-990A. Leased from Alaska Airlines by AREA Ecuador April 1968-March 1969. To Modern Air October 1969 and registered N5603. Written off 8 Aug 1970. Crashed at Acapulco, Mexico after undershooting the runway, colliding with the approach lights and breaking apart. All 8 occupants survived.

What's the story with the wheels(foreground) , the nose gear and the inadequate hangar height?
