Extract from the Manufacturer's Report. We made a large quantity of China from the Clay. The Clay came to us with all its impurities. It was washed and the Mica taken from it and used without any of the careful processes of preparation to which our English Clays are subjected. Taking this fact into account, the results were surprisingly good. We see no reason why Clay Works should not be erected in Ireland as we are confident that the Clay is of considerable value. Note: Josiah Wedgwood the great Potter in giving evidence before the House of Commons stated that the English Potters obtained their Clay from Devon, Dorset, Cornwall and the Irish Coast

Lovely pots but was Mason showing off Wedgewood pottery or some Irish version???

This seems to suggest that this is not so much a display of pottery as a proof that potters clay could be produced in Ireland.

Per Niall McAuley, looks like Irish stuff to me - seemingly produced/offered as "proof of concept". The jar and long stemmed item in the centre seem to have Irish language text on them. The jar has:

Firstly, welcome back Carol - our lives were so much duller without your presence and posts! Secondly when I was growing up in Limerick this was more or less the centre of activity because (a) I lived not too far away and (b) my father worked on the railway. This scene had not changed much when I was growing up and I can remember some jarveys parked along that fence line though there was a line of taxis nearby as well. Those gates were still there right up to the 1960's if I remember right and the station building was and remains more or less the same. In our time the bus terminal for the country linking the trains with the outlying areas and towns not served by the railway were up there to the right of the shot and I remember the green single deckers with the luggage on the rack on the roof leaving there down through the years. Ah, them was the days!!! This was probably taken from the Railway Hotel which was directly across the street from the station?

I should mention that this is right in the heart of "Cookie" country, just up to the right was Careys Road and the Young Munster rugby club was centred in that area. The club which is 120+ years old was drawn from local workers and craftsmen and the name was cocking a snoop at those elitist clubs like the Old Belvederes, Old Wesleys etc.

What a contrast between the extravagant hats of the ladies and the caps of the urchins standing right next to them.

One assumes the Pavillion was deliberately constructed to be temporary - an external fabric like a film set but with no underlying structural integrity. A tradition carried-on in the city in many of its subsequent apartment buildings.

The DIA has a couple of relevant entries, most relevant: Name: KAYE-PARRY & ROSS Building: CO. DUBLIN, DUBLIN, HERBERT PARK, INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION Date: 1905-07 Nature: Consulting architects. Design 'Renaissance style' exhibition building (domed octagon with 4 radiating limbs of equal ength)l. Builder: Humphreys, London. Cost of buildings and grounds 'upwards of £100,000'.

The OSI 25" map claims to have been surveyed in 1907, but Herbert Park is missing its pond and bandstand, so I think it shows the pre-exhibition park.
