It's not an unidentified photographer. The credit in the lower left says "Pirie MacDonald, Photographer of Men". Also see this similar photo in the Library of Congress collection.
  • Smithsonian Institution said:
Thanks for the comment! You're correct, it looks like Pirie MacDonald is the photographer. I'm confirming it with the Archives of American Art and will update it once I hear from them. Cheers, Effie, Smithsonian Institution Archives

Firemen's parade (LOC)

  • Kilted Cowboy said:
The parade was for the unveiling of the Fireman's memorial on the site at 100th Street and Riverside Drive, and on Sept. 5, 1913, 10,000 people assembled for the unveiling. Four girls -- Margaret Dow, 10, May Boyne, 12, Florence Walsh, 11, and Mary Connolly, 10 -- took down two large United States flags that covered the monument. All four were daughters of firemen killed in the line of duty.
  • Wystan said:
The unveiling of the memorial was a national event, which attracted delegations of visiting firemen from all over the U.S.

yes this is interesting... shimmering silver quality is quite lovely. the crispness and lighting seem so contemporary vs nearly 70 years ago.

I like this picture... soemthing about the green wall contrasted by the door and the portrait orientation seems to work better than a landscape.
