    The numbers, 74-75-77, correspond to strain gages attached to the metal. The gage circuit is buried under specification-grade epoxy so the gage and the wire stays put under the epoxy blanket.

    Sometimes specification-grade nail polish like paint or silicon rubber is used to protect wiring. Please comment if you think this is silicon rubber. Medical grade Silastic may also be used. Hardware store silicon rubber usually has acids that can damage the strain gage wiring. That's why it smells like vinegar when curing.
