Mae’r Llyfrgell Genedlaethol yn falch i fod yn rhan o The Commons ar Flickr. Ers 1907, mae’r Llyfrgell Genedlaethol wedi bod yn casglu a diogelu etifeddiaeth a diwyddliant Cymru. Ar hyn o bryd mae’r casgliad ffotograffau yn cynnwys dros 800,000 o eitemau o gyfnod cynnar ffotograffiaeth a gwaith ffotograffwyr cyfoes.

I don't usually think of "gypsies" as being so well groomed and clean, not to sound sterotypical, just thought of them as more ethnic looking and not having roots and bathing and beautiful dresses, etc. access...

There are very strict codes of cleanliness that must be followed by many Romanies. The idea of dirty comes from an old insult that meant in league with the devil not actually unclean because of the traditions that were considered unchristian.

I believe this image was taken in front of the property next door to the Civic Hall, Crescent Road, Llandeilo. The hall was used as a drill hall in the day and the benches probably came from there. D.C.Harries used another adjacent property for similar groups - the height of the front garden was ideal for the rear row.

Thank you for your comment Landy Dave. Interesting information.

Yes, I agree. These houses with their distinctive curved corrugated iron bay roofs are in Crescent Road on the corner of Latimer Road.

The 1911 County Primary School still stands. The majority of the High School was demolished in the 1980s, with just the oldest part remaining. The photo shows the canteen kitchen block, across the road from the 1911 school, shared with the adjacent High School.
