About The Getty Research Institute (GRI) The Getty Research Institute at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, California is dedicated to furthering knowledge and advancing understanding of the visual arts. Its Research Library contains more than one million volumes of books, periodicals, and auction catalogs, and features a Photo Study Collection comprised of approximately two million study photographs of art and architecture from antiquity through the 20th-century. These special collections of rare materials and digital resources serve an international community of scholars and the public. Twice a year, the GRI presents exhibitions that highlight a particular area of the library’s extensive holdings.
